Number of available places

During 2022/2023 one place will be available for a young European radiologist or radiologist in training who is a member of ESR.

Eligibility

1. This exchange programme applies to young European radiologists and/or radiologists in training.
2. The candidate should wish to become a fellow or subspecialise in molecular imaging.
   
3. Knowledge of the English language.
4. The successful candidate will have to make himself/herself available for an online interview via Skype/Zoom.
5. The ESR membership fee for 2022 must be settled.
6. IMPORTANT: Only the applications of candiates who are eligible to apply for provisional UK registration (GMC) will be accepted for evaluation. Please check out the requirements before you submit your application.

Duration and funding

Programme structure

During the period the trainee will work closely with medical, nursing and allied health professionals to assist in providing high quality patient care.

The post holder will be accountable to Dr. Francesco Fraioli as clinical supervisor and Prof. Jamshed Bomanji as Clinical Lead of department.

Induction: The candidate will undergo Trust Induction immediately on taking up the post, as well as the first convenient Induction Course organised by the RCP (London) four times each year.

Orientation: The successful candidate will undergo a period of orientation. This will include observing consultants and shadowing registrars. Candidates will take clinical responsibilities only after the supervising consultant and departmental Clinical Lead deems them competent to do so. The period of orientation will be for a period of 4 – 6 weeks. In some cases, a longer period of orientation may be required. This will be decided by the educational supervisor and departmental Clinical Lead.

The post holder will meet with the educational supervisor to discuss personal development plans within the first six weeks of commencing the post.

Clinical:
– To facilitate, in close collaboration with Consultant medical staff, all aspects of service provision

Aspects of service provision:
– To provide medical cover for patients while in the Department
– Justification of requests for Nuclear Medicine and Radiology tests
– To take medical histories from, examine and administer radiotracers, iodine agents or paramagnetic contrasts to patients
– Attending for investigation and treatment
– To supervise cardiac stress procedures
– To check studies for completeness and quality before patients leave the Department
– General nuclear medicine, bone densitometry, PET/CT, PET/MR, CT and MR, RECIST reporting (under supervision initially)
– General liaison with other departments to include attendance at multidisciplinary meetings
– To supervise other junior medical staff when requested.

Research:
– He/She should also have an interest and basic skills in medical database handling and scientific presentations and publications.
– To participate in one of the projects already undergoing in the Department. Specifically, after a training period, he/she will serve as a reader for evaluation of research images.
– To set up and lead their own project, to be submitted to a 3* paper.
– To work in a team of researchers, acquire dedicated skills of leadership.
