Clinical Fellowship in Neuroradiology

The Department of Radiology is committed to excellence in education and health research. We fulfil the needs of the communities we serve, locally in Eastern Ontario, nationally in Canada and globally.

The Department of Radiology consists of 75 Faculty members working across the Divisions of Medical Imaging, Radiation Oncology, and Medical Physics. Our educational programs include undergraduate electives, postgraduate training in the form of comprehensive residency and fellowship programs, as well as faculty development. We are the largest Canadian University provider of radiology-based continuing professional development opportunities in Canada.

The Department holds an annual radiology residency review course that is well received and considered a reference standard for comprehensive review of diagnostic radiology.

Eligibility Criteria

Fellowship candidates must have completed an accredited radiology training programme and be either certified or eligible for certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Diagnostic Imaging, The American Board of Radiology, or certified with equivalent qualifications from another country. The candidate must also be proficient in both written and spoken English. Proof of qualifications must be provided by all applicants.

Duration and funding

Neuroradiology subspecialty training program is accredited by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and is considered as a residency program of two years. The fellowhip will start on July 1, 2025 as the academic year runs from July 1st to June 30th. The fellow’s annual salary is CAN $81,727.49 (gross); appropriate taxes are deducted accordingly. The grant will be paid directly to the fellow by the training center.

Number of available places

During 2025/2026 one place will be available for recently board-certified ESR full members, i.e. radiologists residing within the boundaries of Europe. 

General Objectives

To develop clinical and academic expertise in both diagnostic and interventional neuroradiology.

  • To develop expertise in the performance and interpretation of advanced MRI techniques, including, but not limited to, diffusion and perfusion imaging, functional MRI, and MR Spectroscopy

  • To help to develop new indications for advanced neuroimaging techniques, including, but not limited to, functional MRI and MR Spectroscopy

  • To refine and further develop expertise in the performance and interpretation of computed tomography scans of the brain, head and neck, and spine

  • To refine and further develop expertise in the performance and interpretation of myelograms

  • To further develop and refine skills with respect to the indications, risks and benefits, and performance of diagnostic neuroangiography

  • To develop skills and gain experience in the performance of intracranial, interventional neuroradiologic procedures, including, but not limited to, treatment of aneurysms with GDC coils, angioplasty, thrombolysis, and balloon occlusions

  • To contribute to and develop expertise in neuroradiology research initiatives

Structure

  • A two-year subspecialty residency
  • The resident will rotate through MRI, CT, Myelography, and angiography at both the Civic and the General campuses. His/her time will be divided approximately equally through each of these modalities
  • Protected academic time will be provided when necessary to support research initiatives

Evaluation Process

Ongoing evaluation of the candidate will occur by direct observation as well as by oral and OSCE examination and Review of evaluations conducted at regular intervals with the fellowship program director.
